Your Budget
Oak Desks For Home Office
Budget may be the most limiting factor when you start shopping. Yet your budget can also be used to your advantage. Savvy shoppers get the best deals. If your budget is somewhat tight then take your time to become educated about the different brands, materials, styles and accessories available with each line of computer desks. Also check any used office furniture stores and learn what you can get for a set price. By learning as much as you can about your options, you will be able to recognize a great deal when it comes along and snatch it up.

Available Space
You can see yourself sitting behind a big beautiful, wood executive desk with a matching credenza, hutch and free standing file cabinet and looking good. So you make your purchase, next Tuesday the delivery guys show up and you realize you did not measure correctly... or at all. It happens all the time. Once you choose the furniture you want, ideally you would physically lay out the dimensions of your home office furniture before you buy. Simply measure off the dimensions of each piece you want to fit into your space and place a piece of tape on the floor to show the outlines. Painters tape is great for this and allows you to get a visual concept of how much space your furniture is going to use.
Quality of Construction
Quality is key to long term satisfaction. Though there are some well made home office furniture pieces made from manufactured wood (a.k.a. particle board) there is a lot of junk too. Along the same thought, there are plenty of 100% wood products that are poorly assembled. So, what do you do? Look for features such as dove-tail joints and metal ball bearing glides on the drawers. For connecting the major pieces of the desk, look for channel joint construction. Also, read the reviews of products you are considering purchasing to see what others who own the furniture have to say. One last recommendation is to always buy the best quality you can afford, the extra cost is usually offset by functionality and longevity.
Frequency And Type Of Use
Someone who is or will be working full time from home will have different needs than the person that merely wants a place to surf the internet, pay bills online and check email. The person who is working full time will likely need more desk top space, filing and storage capabilities and will require an ergonomic environment. Features like a keyboard tray, cable management, and CPU storage can make one's life less complicated and less cluttered while enhancing comfort. For those more casual home office users, fewer features will be required and thus represents the opportunity for possible savings.
Additional Office Furniture Pieces
Additional file storage, perhaps a fireproof file cabinet, printer table, a credenza for a second computer, a visitors chair, a desk lamp; all of these possible additions may make your home office experience much more pleasurable. Plus there is always the need for a comfortable task chair, which is even more of an issue for the full timer. Considering the possibility of needing these accessories prior to buying and making sure to budget for them at the beginning makes good sense.
Take the time to evaluate your available space and what accessories you feel are needed. Factor in the features your desk needs based on how often you will be using it, including its construction quality, and get the best computer desk you can for the money you have to spend.
